Our Priority

by Dr. Paul Chappell

"Glory ye in his holy name: let the heart of them rejoice that seek the LORD. Seek the LORD and his strength, seek his face continually. Remember his marvellous works that he hath done, his wonders, and the judgments of his mouth."

1 Chronicles 16:10-12

Over the past few days we have been focusing on our need to seek the Lord. As we seek Him, He will draw us closer to Him and will give us joy. We must seek Christ with our whole hearts and by spending time in His Word.

Today we will see how we must set God's Word as a priority in our lives. The devil wishes to distract us from God's Word and fill our lives with other things. While other things may be important, we must make spending time with God a priority in our lives.

Someone once said, "What gets planned gets done." In this day of schedules, meetings, and projects to get done, it can become easy for a Christian to skip spending personal time with God. But it is during a time of such busyness that we need time alone with Christ even more! Only as we seek Christ can He bless our lives and give us strength each day.

One way we can make time with God a priority is by having a specific time and place to meet with Him. We must plan a time each day when we will stop what we are doing and seek Him through prayer and Bible reading. You should also plan a specific place where you will meet with Him. While we can talk to God anytime and anywhere, we are kept more accountable if we have scheduled a specific time and place to meet God.

James 4:8 says, "Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded." God promises that as we draw nigh unto Him through personal time with Him, He will draw nigh unto us! What a great promise! Our God promises to be near to us as we make it a priority to seek Him.

It is important that we not only make it a priority to seek Christ through personal time with Him, but that we do it each day. Psalm 32:6 says, "For this shall every one that is godly pray unto thee in a time when thou mayest be found: surely in the floods of great waters they shall not come nigh unto him." God calls out to us to come to Him each day. He is waiting to meet with us and fellowship with us each day. He wants to give us strength each day, but we must first seek Him. We must make it a priority to seek Christ each day.

Are you seeking Him faithfully each day? He is faithful to meet with us each day if we will come to Him. The fact that you are taking time to read this daily devotion is proof that you are making Christ a priority in your life! Don't let other things take priority over Christ in your life. Seek God today and ask Him to help you stay faithful to Him.
