God's Grace

by Dr. Paul Chappell

"And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong."

2 Corinthians 12:9-10

As we saw yesterday, there will be times in our lives when we will be faced with a trial or difficult time. It may be through an injustice, a loss, or a struggle in our lives, but we will all go through some trial. When we experience a trial or a loss, God can heal our hurts through His grace.

God's grace is made perfect in our weaknesses. When we are unable to help ourselves during our times of trial, He will show Himself strong as we lean on Him for help. Only through God's grace can we hope to make it through difficult times.

Not only is God's grace perfect in our weakness, but it is also sufficient during our times of need. As we see in our verses today, God did not choose to heal Paul of his thorn in the flesh, but He provided His grace to help him through the trial. Paul tells us that God's grace is sufficient to help bring us through our trials.

God's grace is not only sufficient, but it also helps in our times of need. Hebrews 4:16 says, "Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need." God offers us grace to help during our trials. All we must do is seek Christ and give our trials to Him; we must let Him help sustain us during our trials. Every one of us has times of need. But Christ, who was betrayed, mistreated, and crucified, understands what we are going through and offers us help through His grace.

Hudson Taylor once said, "It does not matter where He places me or how. That is rather for Him to consider than for me. For the easiest positions, He must give grace; and in the most difficult, His grace is sufficient. So, if God places me in great perplexity, must He not give me much guidance? In positions of great difficulty, much grace? In circumstances of great pressure and trial, much strength? As to work, mine was never so plentiful, so responsible, or so difficult; but the weight and strain are all gone. His resources are mine, for He is mine!"

No matter what we go through or how difficult the trial, God's grace is sufficient to help us in our times of need. Are you going through a difficult time? We cannot endure a trial without God's help, yet we do not have to! God offers us His grace to help sustain us. Look to Christ today for strength and let Him give you His grace to help you today.
