Prove God

by Dr. Paul Chappell

"Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths."

Proverbs 3:5-6

A television program preceding the 1988 Winter Olympics featured blind skiers being trained for slalom skiing, impossible as that sounds. Paired with sighted skiers, the blind skiers were taught on the flats how to make right and left turns. When that was mastered, they were taken to the slalom slope, where their sighted partners skied beside them shouting, "Left!" and "Right!" As they obeyed the commands, they were able to negotiate the course and cross the finish line, depending solely on the sighted skiers' word. It was either complete trust or catastrophe.

Just like these blind skiers, we must carefully follow God's commands to safely lead us through life. Many times we may not follow God's leading because we do not truly trust Him. But God desires for us to prove Him—to let Him show us that He will indeed provide for us and lead us safely through life.

We must prove God personally. We must get alone with God and seek His provision, guidance, and help for our personal needs. He desires to meet our needs and to provide for us, but we must first come before Him and prove Him.

We can prove God personally by taking our personal needs to Him alone. Take a personal prayer request that you have to God and do not let anyone else know about it. Every day spend time in prayer for that prayer request and ask for God's will to be done. Then when God answers your request, you will know that He personally answered your prayers! You will see that God does care about you personally and that He desires to meet each one of your needs.

God wants us to prove Him. Malachi 3:10 says, "Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it." God was telling the Israelites to give Him their tithes and to trust Him for their provisions. He wanted them to prove Him and to let Him show them that He would provide for their needs.

We must not only prove God personally, but we must also trust Him entirely. We cannot expect God to answer our requests if we do not trust Him entirely. He desires for us to give Him our requests and let Him have control. We cannot expect God to work if we are creating a "backup plan." We must realize that we can do nothing, and we must trust Him entirely.

Is there a need you have today? Take it to God and let Him prove Himself to you. Prove Him by giving it to Him alone and letting Him have complete control. Trust Him entirely. Spend time with God right now and let Him prove Himself to you today.
