His Soon Return

by Dr. Paul Chappell

"For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord."

1 Thessalonians 4:16–17

Do you remember the words of Jesus in John 14, when he said "I will come again"? I love to think about that wonderful promise. Jesus Christ is coming again! Sometimes we call this the "blessed hope" of the believer.

No matter what your circumstance today, you have reason to hope because of the coming of Jesus Christ. Titus 2:13 says, "Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ."

Have you ever tried to imagine the day when Christ will return? The Bible indicates that instantly all believers will be with the Lord in the air. We will be with Him forever!

The next time the "outward look" of your life disappoints you, try the "upward look"—it always helps me to have the right perspective on life. During times of trial, or when considering how I might serve the Lord or give to Him more effectively, the soon return of Christ is a constant motivator in doing the will of God.

Having served in the ministry now for over twenty-two years, our family has become accustomed to entertaining pastors, missionaries, church members, and friends in our home on a regular basis. While our home is fairly organized, there are always those final touches that need to be taken care of prior to entertaining company. It is not uncommon to tell one of our children, "Straighten your room," "Take out the trash," or "Vacuum the living room." "Why all the fuss?" someone might ask. The reason, of course, is that company is coming.

Is there something in your life today that needs to be cleaned or better prepared for the coming of Jesus Christ? Let me encourage you to praise Him for the promise of His coming and then prepare for the reality of His coming.

Quote for the Day

"Be ready for the last moment by being ready every moment."
