Consider His Introduction

Revival Readings for the New Year

by Dr. Paul Chappell

"The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world."

John 1:29

The desire of John the Baptist, the one crying in the wilderness, was not that people would look at him and be impressed, but that they would look to the one he pointed to and say, "What a great Saviour!"

As the pastor of Lancaster Baptist Church, it has never been my desire for people to look at our church and say, "What a great ministry" or "What an incredible campus" or even "What an awesome congregation." From the beginning it has been my hope that as people looked at our church, their response would assuredly be, "What a great Saviour they have!"

As Jesus approached him, John the Baptist simply said, "Behold the Lamb of God." As we approach this new year, may we come to the place where we understand that our existence truly is all about God. Our nation, our churches, our homes and our individual lives need spiritual revival. It is my prayer that this month's emphasis on spiritual revival would help each of us consider our own spiritual conditions and need for revival. May we shift our focus off ourselves, our problems, our hopes, our desires, and may we place our focus back on our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

Hebrews 12:2 reminds us, "Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God." Our Lord truly is worthy of our attention and focus. May we give Him the honor due His name.
