Consider His Compassion

Revival Readings for the New Year

by Dr. Paul Chappell

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."

John 3:16

No verse in the Scriptures is more well-known or more beloved than John 3:16. To think that God would love sinful men enough to send His only begotten Son to this earth for the purpose of dying for our sins is enough to soften the heart of even the most hardened sinner.

The reach of God's love is limitless. From the eldest to the youngest, from the richest to the poorest, from the educated to the simple, no person lies outside the reach of God's limitless love. Though sometimes we can wonder how God could possibly love those who seem to resist Him so, the truth is, His love is not dependant upon our behavior toward Him, but rather it is based upon His perfect character and heart toward us.

Who is it for whom you are praying to accept Christ—a loved one, a coworker, a neighbor, a long time friend? Maybe you have been praying for his salvation for quite some time, and yet he still has not accepted Christ as his personal Saviour. Do not lose faith. Keep praying, for there is no heart so calloused that can't be softened by the love and compassion of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.
