Grateful for Christ’s Coming
by Dr. Paul Chappell
“For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.”
1 Thessalonians 4:16-17
We need to be grateful today that Jesus Christ is coming again. At the sound of the trumpet, the Lord will be coming in the clouds to call His children unto Him. Christ’s imminent return should be the focal point throughout our day.
Not only will Christ be coming to rapture believers, Christ will also be coming a second time to establish His kingdom. He gave the promise to David that of His kingdom there would be no end. He will fulfill the promise recorded in His Word. Luke 21:26-27 says, “Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken. And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.”
The Bible tells us that after the Tribulation, Jesus Christ will come again and establish the kingdom that was promised to David. Matthew 24:29-30 states it this way: “Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken: And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.”
We need to remember that Jesus Christ is coming again. We need to be looking for that coming and living with the fact that the kingdoms of this world are not permanent, but that Christ’s kingdom will last forever. When a Christian focuses on the cross and Christ’s coming, there is plenty to be thankful for. Let’s not let anything overshadow the fact that He would take common people like us and say, “I value you and I am preparing a home in Heaven for you.”
When Jesus comes again, I don’t want to be off on the side of the road somewhere spinning my wheels. I do not want to have a heart that is anything but right with Him. When the trumpet sounds, I pray that I will be happily serving my Saviour in the work that He has called me to do.
As you begin your day, my question to you is, “Are you living in a way that would please the Saviour if He were to return today?” I pray that you will apply the truth of God’s Word with the knowledge of Christ’s imminent return. May the Lord find His followers faithfully serving Him!
