Why Do Christians Fail?
by Dr. Paul Chappell
“Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the LORD unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts.”
Zechariah 4:6
We as Christians are constantly fighting an uphill battle against the devil. We fight against the devil’s temptations and tricks that he uses to cause us to fail in our Christian lives. Sadly enough, he is succeeding most of the time. Many Christians, tired and weary of fighting, give up. They are tired of the daily struggle to live for Christ in a wicked world.
Why do Christians who were once strong and committed to Christ end up failing and straying away from God? In many cases, Christians will rely upon their own strength instead of daily seeking God’s strength. Galatians 3:3 says, “Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?” Don’t think that once you have been living for Christ for a while, you can handle things on your own. You can’t! None of us can! With all the wickedness and sin around us, we need God’s power and strength daily!

Friend, none of us have everything in control! Only God has the power we need to defeat the devil and to help us make it through each day! Another reason Christians fail is that they do not seek help or guidance. We can sometimes become so proud that we don’t seek counsel from more mature Christians. We can learn a lot from those who have gone before us, but we sometimes refuse to admit we need help. No one expects you to be a super-Christian! We all need help at one time or another! Never get so full of pride that you let little things become big things because you didn’t seek help from others!
First Corinthians 10:12 says, “Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.” Friend, when people think of you, don’t let them think of someone who failed in the Christian life! Remember to daily seek God’s strength and power to help you throughout your day. And also remember to never get so puffed up that you don’t seek the counsel of more mature Christians! Take time today to ask God to help you continue living for Him each day!
