His Creation by Dr. Paul Chappell "In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light." Genesis 1:1-3 A twelve year old boy named David was born without an immune system. He underwent a bone marrow transplant in order to correct the deficiency. Up to that point he had spent his entire life in a plastic bubble in order to prevent exposure to common germs, bacteria, and viruses that could kill him. He lived without ever knowing human contact. When asked what he'd like to do if released from his protective bubble, he replied, "I want to walk barefoot on grass and touch my mother's hand." How often have we taken for granted the simple pleasures of creation? The warmth of the sun, the coolness of the grass, the whistling of the wind, the pitter-patter of rain, the magnificence of the mountains, and the vastness of the oceans. How many times have we run through the rain, upset that it was ruining our hair or outfit? Some people, such as David, will never enjoy the small acts of nature that we take for granted each day. Think about the many people who cannot enjoy God's creation—the crippled child that cannot go outside or the elderly woman who cannot get out of bed, and many others. Next time the weather isn't exactly what you'd like it to be, remember to thank God for His divine creation! Another aspect of creation is that God has made us. Psalm 139:14 says, "I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well." Friend, God has created you for a unique purpose! Whether you view yourself as beautiful or plain, talented or not, God has uniquely designed you for His purpose and pleasure. Our culture is consumed with the idea of looking and being perfect. The world will only recognize you if you are beautiful or if you can do something extraordinary. But God loves you just the way He made you! Next time you are feeling depressed about the way you look, thank God that you are His creation! Thank God that you are saved and on your way to Heaven! Thank Him that He doesn't operate on this world's scale but loves you and made you exactly the way He wants you. Take time today to thank Him for the wonders of nature—the beauty of creation. Also thank Him for the way He made you! He has a purpose for you no matter how you view yourself! Thank Him for His wonderful creation today! Daily Bible Reading Jeremiah 32-33 • Hebrews 1
