Prayer By Faith

by Dr. Paul Chappell

“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”

Hebrews 11:1

When our children were younger, their answer to any money dilemma was “just write a check.” It did not matter whether we were in the toy department at Wal-Mart or if we were contemplating a vehicle purchase. They had no comprehension of checking accounts and overdrawn fees. By faith, they believed that a check and a loving parent could supply all of their needs or desires.

Our loving heavenly Father wants to grant our requests. He delights in giving us the desires of our hearts. All He requires of us is faith. Mark 9:23 says, “If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.”

My children were secure in their standing. They did not doubt my ability to grant their wishes. They had faith that all things were possible through my checking account!

What about you, dear Christian? Are you making your requests known? Are you coming to God by faith? In Hebrews 11:6 we read, “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”

Because of my children’s faith, they were diligent in asking me for presents. They chose to live by Matthew 7:7-8, “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.” God wants us to approach Him. If we feel uncomfortable, maybe we are not secure in our standing with Him. Maybe we need to renew our perspective of the Father and child relationship.

As simple as this illustration may sound, it shows us how easy it is to approach our Heavenly Father. He loves us and wants what is best for our lives. Let’s purpose to ASK. Let’s live by FAITH, and watch Him bless our lives in unbelievable ways.
