Revival Readings for the New Year
by Dr. Paul Chappell
“Mine eye affecteth mine heart because of all the daughters of my city.”
Lamentations 3:51
During the month of January we're focusing our daily devotions on revival. It is my prayer that these daily readings and stories of revival will encourage you to experience a personal revival by the end of the New Year.
David Livingstone, who was raised in poverty, was one of seven children. At the age of ten he began working in the local cotton mill, studying classic literature in his spare time. The young Scotsman had completed his medical education, involving two years of study in Glasgow, and was ready to give his life to the Lord. His eyes were fastened upon the speaker, Robert Moffatt, who had a vehement concern for Africa’s perishing millions. These words by Moffatt gripped Livingstone’s heart: “I have sometimes seen, in the morning sun, the smoke of a thousand villages where no missionary has ever been.” This statement gave Livingstone a desire to reach these people.
How many people do we pass each day without Christ? We see the lost, but does it affect our hearts? Do we do something about it? May we not allow the untold millions to pass us each day without doing our part to tell them about the love of Christ. Ask God to help you become more soul-conscious and to love others as He loves them.
