Serving Christ by Dr. Paul Chappell "For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the LORD. And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt." Exodus 12:12-13 As we conclude our look at Moses' early life in Egypt, notice one more decision Moses made as he lived by faith. When Moses decided to trust God and identify with His people, God used him. God took Moses into the desert for forty years and refined him. He then told Moses to take Aaron and speak to Pharaoh. While Moses made excuses at first, he decided to trust God and obey Him. Exodus 7:6 says, "And Moses and Aaron did as the LORD commanded them, so did they." Moses chose to serve God. God had a plan to bring Israel out of bondage, and He wanted to use Moses to fulfill His plan. Because Moses trusted God, he went to Pharaoh and God used him to free the Hebrew people. Had Moses not surrendered and chosen to serve God, he would not have been used. While Moses initially had fear and doubt, God reassured him that He would be with him. As Moses chose to serve God, He promised to go with him and speak through him to Pharaoh. Even so, as we choose to serve Christ, He will be with us and will work through us. God was able to use Moses in a mighty way because he stepped out by faith. If we wish to see God use us, we must have faith and choose to serve Him. He promises to go with us and to use us, but we can sometimes, like Moses, only see our weaknesses. Moses made excuses at first about his inabilities instead of trusting God, yet God proved to Moses that He could use him. Even so, God wants to use us though we may feel inadequate. While she was home in America, missionary to India, Mary Reed felt certain she had the beginnings of leprosy, and she felt an urgency to hasten back to the land to which she had been called. She then devoted fifty-three years of her life to service among the lepers. At the age of eighty-eight, she broke her hip and soon passed away, but her gravestone still speaks. It reads: "I will make all my mountains a way" (Isaiah 49:11). Another missionary to India said, "She surely did." When we place our trust in Christ and choose to serve Him, He can use us to do great things no matter our limitations! All we must do is choose to trust and serve Him. By ourselves, our service would mean nothing. But when Christ is in it, God can use our service for His glory. Are you serving Christ? Are you letting Him use you in a mighty way? Ask Christ to use you today. Choose to serve Him willingly as you live by faith each day. Daily Bible Reading 1 Chronicles 19-21 • John 8:1-27
