Consider His Foretelling

Revival Readings for the New Year

by Dr. Paul Chappell

"He said, I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet Esaias."

John 1:23

Sometimes we all want to miss a few meetings. No one would shed a tear if the IRS auditor called and canceled his appointment. Children celebrate when they miss school due to snow or heavy rain, but there are some appointments we just do not want to miss.

Despite a humble birth in an obscure town, it was hard to miss the coming of Christ. The book of Micah told of the place; Daniel prophesied the time; and the prophet Isaiah gave the house of David as the manner of birth.

Jesus even had an announcer or forerunner, whose name was John the Baptist. God gave John the Baptist a single task: to prepare the way for the Messiah, and so he did!

Despite the many signs, the many prophecies, and the many voices God used to say "I'm coming," many still did not notice their Saviour's arrival. When Jesus looked over Jerusalem, He wept because they had missed their day of visitation. Jesus told the skeptical Pharisees in John 5:46, "For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me: for he wrote of me." God had given His people all the details they needed to know the very year Jesus would come as a King, but they had missed their visit.

Are you expecting God's visit? One day Jesus will come to this earth again, and no one will miss that appointment. God also has an appointment with you personally. He wants to visit you and "pour out his Spirit" upon you through revival. Don't miss your meeting!
