Yielding Our Will by Dr. Paul Chappell "Servants, be subject to your masters with all fear; not only to the good and gentle, but also to the froward. For this is thankworthy, if a man for conscience toward God endure grief, suffering wrongfully. For what glory is it, if, when ye be buffeted for your faults, ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is acceptable with God. For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps." 1 Peter 2:18-21 It can be easy for Christians to think their work and their Christian lives are two separate things. But God desires for us to develop a good testimony and to let Christ shine through our lives at work. No matter where we are or what we are doing, we must live for God—even at work. As we seek to glorify God at work, we must yield our will to the service of Christ. We must realize that we are not working for the applause or recognition of men but for God. Ephesians 6:6-7 says, "Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart; With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men." There will be times when no one will recognize your hard work, but remember that God is watching all you do. Yield your will to serve Christ and not just men. Andrew Murray once said, "God is ready to assume full responsibility for the life wholly yielded to Him." When we yield our lives to Christ, He will empower us to do His will, and He will use our examples to reach others around us. We can be good witnesses of Him if we choose to daily yield to His will for our lives. Also, when we yield our will to Christ, our desire will be to honor Him in all we do. We can honor God in the workplace by being sensitive to His working in our hearts. Even when our employers or coworkers are not kind to us, we must respond in a way that is pleasing to Christ. Psalm 119:2 says, "Blessed are they that keep his testimonies, and that seek him with the whole heart." Someone once said, "The heart has no secret which our conduct does not reveal." When our hearts are right with God and we are yielded to His will for us, we will have no problem glorifying Him at work. During a war, a chaplain visited a wounded soldier on a cot in a field hospital. He said, "You have lost an arm in the great cause." "No," said the soldier with a smile. "I didn't lose it; I gave it." Like this soldier, we must willingly yield our will to Christ each day. Are you yielded to God's will for you at work? We must yield our will to Christ if we wish to glorify Him. Yield your will to Christ and seek to honor Him today at work. Daily Bible Reading 2 Kings 7-9 • John 1:1-28
