A Life of Faith

by Dr. Paul Chappell

"Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour; That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life."

Titus 3:5-7

Over the past few days, we have seen how Christ desires for us to be committed to Him. He will give us rest and will take our burdens from us. Although many things can hinder us from trusting God, He wants us to simply trust Him during our trials. Today, we will see two areas of our lives in which we can place our faith.

First, we can place our faith in God's guidance of our lives. As we live for Christ, it is sometimes overwhelming to know what to do and where to go, yet Christ has all the answers. As we trust Christ as our guide, we know that He will be with us every step of the way.

Psalm 119:104-105 says, "Through thy precepts I get understanding: therefore I hate every false way. Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path." We can never go wrong or take a wrong turn when Christ is our guide. We must give Him full control of our lives and live with faith that He will guide us.

The preacher Oswald Chambers once said, "Faith for my deliverance is not faith in God. Faith means, whether I am visibly delivered or not, I will stick to my belief that God is love. There are some things only learned in a fiery furnace." God may require us to go through trials, but we must trust Him and have faith that He is guiding our lives.

Second, we can have faith that God is our strength in life. We are helpless in life without God's strength. Yet Christ offers to give us strength as we live by faith each day. Philippians 4:13 says, "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me." We can do anything through Christ's strength! No matter what comes into our lives, we can have strength through a life of faith.

George Muller once said, "Faith does not operate in the realm of the possible. There is no glory for God in that which is humanly possible. Faith begins where man's power ends." A life of faith is characterized by letting go of everything and letting God take over. As we live by faith, God will guide our steps and give us strength each day. We cannot live without Christ's help, and thankfully, we do not have to! We must turn to Him and live each day in faith that He will be with us.

Are you living a life of faith today? Faith does not question God or worry about the future. Faith simply trusts that God knows what is best and lets Christ have full control. Turn to Christ and let Him guide your steps and give you strength today. God will use you as you live a life of faith.
