Consider His Passion

Revival Readings for the New Year

by Dr. Paul Chappell

"I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work."

John 9:4

Everyone cares about something. Even that young person who daydreams in class and passes notes in church has something he cares about very passionately. The question for each of us is not "Do we care?" The real question is "What do we care about?"

Jesus said He must do the works of God while it was day. He saw that the night was coming, and He would be out of time. Jesus didn't care about wealth or status. His passion was to do the will of the Father.

We must have this same fire that the Apostle Paul expressed in Philippians 3:1314, "Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus." God's high calling is the only pursuit in our lives that is worthy of all our energy and zeal.

Jim Elliot—who gave his life attempting to reach the Auca Indians in South America—prayed, "God, light these idle sticks of my life and let me burn out for Thee." He had a passion to live his life for Christ.

What do you care about? Let God rekindle your passion for Him. Consider Christ's passion and what mattered to Him most.
